But would VT play those teams more though? If you look at the Big Ten's
conference schedule formula, then you will see that Indiana-Purdue is the only protected cross-division game. As a result, every year 1 team will get bumped from playing Indiana or Purdue so the protected cross-division game.
Likewise, the Pac-12 has 2 protected cross-division games for the 4 CA schools so they can play each other every year. As a result, the 2 WA and 2 OR schools end up playing the 2 AZ schools, UT, and CO more frequently. If the Clemson-GT, FSU-Miami, and NC State-UNC protected cross-division games are maintained, then it is very likely VT would still play BC, Syracuse, L'ville, and Wake a lot more than playing Clemson, NC State, and FSU. If Syracuse-Pitt and Wake-Duke pairings are also maintained, then the list would be narrowed down to only BC and L'ville.
